Personal Asset Inventory
-
In the summer of 2002, there was a major forest fire south of the
Denver metro area. It moved fast and burned a large area of the
foothills, and was named the Hayman Fire. The smoke loomed over most
of Southern Suburbs for days. I suddenly realized, as my neighbors in
the foothills were being forced to evacuate their homes, if I only had 30
minutes warning to leave my home, I had no idea what I owned.
-
I decided to document my personal belongings... both with digital
photos and manual record of serial and model numbers. In case my home
ever burns to the ground, at least I'll have some record of what I owned.
This also would benefit me if I were ever burglarized.
-
In August of 2002, I decided I had polished this documentation
strategy well enough to offer it as a service to my friends and neighbors.
Just as it is easier to document a computer network or server while it is
still running, it is much easier to collect information about our personal
assets before our memory of them is all we have left.

Many businesses do not have adequate documentation of their
critical network systems. Jon has 5 years of experience documenting
Networks. A basic documentation binder includes inventory and
configuration information relating to servers, and other network systems.
This report is critical to cut down the cost and time involved in recreating
information after a system crash or other catastrophe.
