Lowell Richardson, San Mateo, California 1908 - 1985 He loved many... and many loved him. Did you know him? Lowell RichardsonLowell Richardson was a teacher in San Mateo, California during the 1950's, 60's, 70's, and early 80's. He reached out to all kids, but especially those who were left behind in one way or another. When I attended the middle school where he taught in the early 1970's, I wasn't Jon anymore, I was "Mr. Richardson's kid." I didn't like it much at the time, but came to realize it was an endearing term. Later on, grown ups with their own kids in tow would wave from across the street and say "Hey, Mr. Richardson, remember me? I'm Bobby from 3rd grade!" (I guess its a teacher's ultimate compliment). It was a rare field trip that didn't have 30 or 40 kids making sand candles in Half Moon Bay, or climbing around at Star Hill, exploring critters under a rock, or ... where did he take you on your field trip? He was born in Reno, NV in the early 1900's. He played basketball during High School, in Sacramento. For a time, he played in several Dance Bands around the Central Valley and San Francisco Area. His musician friends referred to him as "Rick." He lived through the Great Depression, led a trio on a cruise line to Shanghai, and worked the Alameda shipyard during the War. He was wild and spent his life loving unconditionally. If you have a "Mr. Richardson" story to tell, send it in. We'd love to hear it. He left us in the mid 1980's, but we know he's still close by... in each of our hearts. I hope you take the time to thank those in your life who have made you a better person. Jon Richardson, one of 5 lucky kids to proudly call him Dad. 77 Solano Sq. #136 Benicia, CA 94510 510-281-6075 jon@RichardsonTech.net Thanks for stopping by! |
