Jon's Limu Blog

My name is Jon.  You guessed it, I'm Marilyn's husband.  We both tried Limu for the first time on Saturday the 18 of March, 2006.  I'm starting this Blog less than a week after I first tasted Original Limu because it is helping me.  I would encourage you to try Limu to see if it helps you too.

Probably the most obvious differences I have noticed are energy level and sleep pattern changes.  When I started taking Limu on a regular basis, I fell asleep more easily, woke up feeling more rested, and found that transitions between the awake and sleep state were very smooth.

Now I'm going to launch into my story.  These are my observations about myself, and they are based on what I have learned from my environment, what those who have treated me have said, and what of that information makes sense to me.

Prior to getting on a regular Limu routine, I often resorted to caffeine to keep my energy level up during the day.  After many years (30+) of overdoing it on coffee, I found that my body couldn't take it anymore.  The signs of how unhealthy this was for me were hiding under the surface of my daily life.

One day in early 2004, I thought I was dying.  I felt dizzy, I could feel and hear my heart beating faster than it ever had before, I felt short of breath, and I was very disoriented.  In a panic, I rushed into the bathroom and passed out cold.

Until then, it had been a day like any other for me... two tall mugs of coffee to get going in the morning, two or three cans of Diet Pepsi during the mid-morning and lunchtime (skipped lunch because I was too busy), and a tall bottle of Arizona Ice Tea as an afternoon pick-me-up.

[Back on the bathroom floor] I don't know how long I was there, but after a while I regained consciousness and found I was bleeding badly with two gashes on my face.  I had cut my face open on a cabinet and a plastic cleaning supply organizer on my way down.  I just barely called 911 before passing out again (this time I was sitting down).  The paramedics arrived and carted me off to the hospital where they monitored and tested me for several days.  In the end, they could find nothing more than "Vaso-Vagal" (blood vessel dilation), and said that perhaps something I ate triggered it.  They suggested I see a food allergy specialist.  (Oh, the bill for that diagnosis was close to $17,000)

After several testing sessions with Gail Smithson (Smithson Clinic), it looked like I had Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and Adrenal Stress syndrome.  This made some sense.  When I didn't have anything like food or caffeine to pump up my energy level, I could wander around in a semi confused state, unable to even decide whether I should eat anything or not.  My Dad reported a similar condition to my Mom when he was alive.

So for the last 30+ years I had been self medicating this ever present low energy (Hypoglycemia) condition with coffee... most of the time the equivalent of 10 cups a day.  The worst part is the affect it had on my personal life.  I can only look back now and see it.

You see, when I'm on coffee, I am more focused and I think straighter (that's a good thing).  But I'm also harsh:  more intolerant of those around me, I take them for granted, and I'm more irritable (these are not good things).  This might explain why my daughter Tara, whose artwork appears on this site, has always begged me to quit drinking coffee since she was a little girl.

Over the years, I learned, the caffeine intake weakened my adrenal glands.  Our adrenals are supposed to regulate your body's energy (blood sugar).  But as long as I was jacking myself up with coffee whenever I needed energy, my adrenals continued to weaken.

Without caffeine intake, I always ate more... a lot more.  I went from 185 pounds on coffee to 235 pounds and short of breath!  Then I'd get back on coffee, cut down on food intake, and go back to 185.  I was really on a weight loss kick in late 2003.  I was down to 165 when I had the passing out episode described above.

I'm not saying drinking coffee is unhealthy for anyone else.  What I'm saying is that the way my body is put together, it was a bad choice for me.

Limu is a natural wellness drink that has a lot of nutritional properties that are not found in land based food sources.  It isn't heavily processed, so the natural food structure is still intact.  There's a lot of scientific research out there on Fucoidan (the essential nutrient in Limu) which I've tried to read and I don't understand.  But what I do understand is that when I drink 2 ounces of this stuff in the morning and the evening, I feel like my energy level stays up during the day, I fall asleep easier (than I did when I was drinking coffee), when I wake up in the night, I can fall back asleep with ease, and when I wake up in the morning, I feel more rested.

So now, I eat modestly, keep my weight in a comfortable range for myself, do not experience the peaks and valleys of energy fluctuations, and am no longer hooked on coffee.

I am very grateful that I was led to Limu and that my heart was open to trying it.
