Jon's Limu Blog: Pre-Limu
... It all came tumbling down on me when I started passing out for no apparent reason in early 2003. The worst episode culminated in 39 stitches all around my right eye and 2 days in the hospital. The good folks in the cardiac unit couldn't find anything wrong with me, so they sent me home and said "Maybe you had an allergic reaction to something you ate." That was mid February 2003, and I went from having cup of coffee for breakfast, running my usual route at work, a few sodas throughout the day, feeling pretty great... coming home tired, eating some leftovers... to feeling terrified that I was dying and then passing out in the bathroom and waking up in a pool of blood. Whoa Nellie!
I had my house checked for Carbon Monoxide, I went to The Smithson Clinic, a holistic allergy treatment clinic south of Denver; I was treated for numerous mild allergies, but the anxiety attacks continued every few weeks with no warning or pattern. I had learned from a Neurologist at the hospital to lay on the floor and get my feet up in the air when these episodes started. They were still no fun. I wondered what was wrong with my body?
Eventually, I found that B-Vitamin complex capsules helped to ease the discomfort of the anxiety attacks. I carried a bottle in my car, one in my pack, and one in the cupboard. What Gail Smithson helped me to uncover is that I was dealing with mild Hypoglycemia and Adrenal Stress Syndrome. The cupboard full of supplements help me recover my proper adrenal functions and modulate low blood sugar conditions. I'm completely off coffee, I've cut way down on sugar, I only get a little bit of chocolate every once in awhile and ice cream maybe once a week. As my 11 year old would say: "That sucks!"
A long standing problem that has remained a mystery is why my lungs have had a dull ache since I was a teenager. Sometimes it was hardly noticeable, sometimes it stopped me from taking part in physical activities. Really, I just tended to avoid sports or exercise because my lungs would get irritated. Then I'd drink a pot of coffee and get all the energy I needed. Who cares, right? But now that I'm off coffee, I've noticed that the sore lungs are often accompanied with a little acid reflux.
